What Is Healing And Can Anybody Do It?

Personally I believe that all forms of healing are essentially the same, (although they may be taught in different ways). I also believe that we are all capable of providing healing energy for ourselves and others. Whether the recipient takes it on board is another matter and the subject of a potentially lengthy debate.

I believe that healing can be as simple as holding the hand of a loved one, wishing for them to get better or sending a text to let them know that you are thinking of them. Let's face it a 'get well soon' card is only a piece of paper until you take the time to write a message and send it to a loved one. Then it has an energy, it brings a smile, cheers them up, brightens their day, and that is very powerful.

Healing in a more defined way is about sending universal energy (or perhaps love) to another with the intention that they get well or feel better. This could be in the form of a prayer, or any one of hundreds of healing methods from around the world. Healing can be sent out for a physical condition, state of mind or simply to help get someone through a difficult patch.

Does healing work? It is very important to say that no healer can make a claim on being able to diagnose, treat or cure a medical condition. It is also important to make the distinction between healing and curing. However, many people do report that they feel better, or get better more quickly after they have received either 'Hands-On' or 'Distance Healing' including myself and a lot of close friends.

Having been part of a circle that regularly sends healing, I know many powerful stories that have been told to us following a healing session. Maybe it's a placebo, maybe it's psychological, maybe it's even a coincidence (if you believe in them). I don't really care how people come to feel better, recover quicker, have unusually positive reactions and test results as in some of the stories I have heard, the important thing is that something positive happened.

Below is an excerpt from 'The Field' by Lynne McTaggart which details of the result of a study into the effects of healing.

"The results were inescapable. No matter which type of healing they used, no matter what their view of a higher being, the healers were dramatically contributing to the physical and psychological well-being of their patients." (F. Sicher and E. Targ et al., 'A randomized double-blind study of the effect of distant healing in a population with advanced AIDS: report of a small scale study', Western Journal of Medicine, 1998; 168(6) 356-63)

Can Anyone Do Healing? Yes - all you need is the intention for another to feel better. You will find all sorts of courses and workshops around the country to help you develop your skills and knowledge.

I personally love the system that is named reiki, it gives a framework for people to learn about healing energy and consciously be able to channel it. I know that I can teach anyone to provide healing, but you don't always need to go on a course or to have a certificate, you may find that you're quite the natural and channelling the healing energy. Learning with others however, can give you confidence, experience, knowledge, and it's great fun. Plus if you want to offer your services alongside other therapies you will need some sort of training and certification for insurance purposes.
